Joel
& Kelly Kaylor have always had a strong desire to go to Japan as
missionaries. Their life mission is “To build churches and raise
leaders in Japan.” They have both served in City Bible Church since the
early 1990s and have been ministering to the Japanese in the Portland
area since they were married in 1996. In 2007 they moved to Japan with their two children (Elisa &
Joshua) to reach this “unchurched” country.
Their
vision has been to build reproducing churches and raise influential leaders
in Japan by planting a church in the city of Osaka that will impact
Osaka and Japan for Christ. In the Spring of 2009, after a training period of about two years at Hope Church in Tokyo, the Kaylors made the move to Osaka to plant their new church.
Joel
Joel
was born and raised in Japan in a missionary family (Leo & Phyllis
Kaylor). As a teenager he had no desire to go into the ministry, but
that changed at Bible Temple’s (City Bible Church) youth camp in 1988.
He had a powerful encounter with God and received a specific calling to
Japan. Planning to return to Japan, he enrolled in Portland Bible
College for ministry training and graduated in 1994.
Kelly
Kelly
was born and raised in a small logging town in British Columbia,
Canada. With the recommendation of her youth pastor she decided to
enroll in Portland Bible College for one semester in 1993. One semester
turned into four years. She went on a STORM (Short Term Outreach
Missions) trip to Japan in 1995. Upon her return she realized that God
had been speaking to her about Japan.
